The effect of the Pandemic on the traditional management style.
The COVID-19 pandemic ushered in a new way of working globally, and has brought to light the blind spot in the way work is done. This created unique challenges for organizations as they had to adjust to new operating, business, and public policy environments. From school closures to devastated industries and millions of jobs lost, the social and economic costs of the pandemic are many and varied. The result is a vast population of the global workforce going virtual leaving a great percent of managers unequipped, unprepared and unstrategic.
The effect is an exposed management style in which positional managers who only thrive on the authority that they're given, and depend on micromanagement and being in control but not on leadership and respect, would need to change and be better, in order to manage a virtual workforce. They would need to trust and care more, they would also need to adopt Project management techniques right now, being a manager is no longer enough.
Who the project Manager is.
As against a project manager, whose task is to organize, plan, and execute projects while working within restraints like budgets and schedules, define project goals, and communicate both with his team and with stakeholders. He sees a project through to its closure. Whether he is running a marketing campaign, constructing a building, developing a computer system, or launching a new product, the project manager is responsible for building a team that is strong, beyond the success of the project.
But because not every company or team has a formal project management process. Whether you work at a large organization or a fast-growing startup, formal project management may not be something your team has prioritized yet, making it increasingly difficult to stay organized and collaborate with teammates. You might be wondering if you need project management except, that’s just a thing for teams with dedicated project managers, right?
Well maybe not, at ArkBM, we like to think that positional managers will have to turn into project managers or at least begin to think like Project Managers in order to continue being managers. The one who listens, leads, communicates, holds others accountable, is accountable and respectful, is trusting, more supportive, more resourceful and collaborative, a better planner. One who knows how to congratulate and close-out projects.
At ArkBM, our Creative Project Management style helps teams complete projects more efficiently. We know that finding a way to plan, manage, and execute work is relevant for every business or company. And while you may want all of these, we suggest that managers should adapt project management styles in order to become better managers.
